For example in Kuala Lumpur; I used to dedicate some Saturday evenings to go feed the homeless with Kechara soup kitchen. It is unbelievable how many children live out there in the streets, how many sad but interesting stories you get to hear during these evenings. I am grateful for the opportunity.
We believe that we should all help the society and give back for all the good in life we have. It does not always have to be money; although we support few causes financially as well.
Coaching people who dedicated their lives to help; but sometimes it is just to much; and they need find their inner strength again.
Probably the most touching activity remains pro bono coaching for organisations that help people in desperate situations organized by Malaysian Association of Certified Coaches.
One of these organisations is Befrienders. It is NGO that helps people who are lonely, sad and down, who see no other way out and need someone to talk to. Many times their job is to talk a caller out of suicide. People at Befrienders are dedicated volunteers, but they need someone to talk to once in a while.
Another one is National Cancer Society of Malaysia; as the name indicates; dealing with death and pain is happening daily. And they all have their own defence mechanism; but spending time with a coach is helping them go on.
LEAF
In Slovakia I joined LEAF’s Skill-Based Volunteering Program, helping meaningful projects and non-profit organizations that contribute to positive change in society.
LEAF’s mission and the punchline: We help write inspirational stories of future personalities of Slovakia; exactly what I was looking for.
Through this program I am now helping Slovak Debate Association to build their strategy and increase the quality of their events. The goal- spread critical thinking among students.
